Fiesta Ornament - Partial to Blues

My latest series of ornaments came about after taking a class with Lisa Niven Kelly at a workshop. The project was supposed to be a beaded bead with lots of wire work and "encrustations" on the outer surface of the wooden bead that we used as a form. As you can see, mine didn't turn out that way. It quite literally grew, going through several different incarnations while I was working on it. I must say that I'm very pleased with the final result, even if it is no longer recognizable as a "beaded bead"!!

Fiesta Ornament - Black Elegance

Yet another in my Fiesta series, this one combines shiny black, matte black, matte white seed beads with crystal clear Swarovski 4mm bicones. This piece is very elegant - the Swarovski crystals really sparkle!

This was my very first try at beading around a cabochon glued to ultrasuede. It was made as a Christmas present for a friend when she got her very frist Christmas tree. She loves all things wolf, so the choice of cabochon was easy - making a border that looked good with the cab was not! I finally settled on the picture jasper beads because they blended well with the colors in the wolves, without distracting from the complexity of the cab. Once I chose the picture jasper, the seed bead colors were obvious - white for the snow, with a hint of silver for that Christmas sparkle. The back is stitched with flat, circular peyote.

This Christmas ornament was made for a good friend in 1998. The front border was made with a variation of tubular peyote stitch on an ultrasuede back. The backing is flat peyote stitch. The front went fairly quickly, but I soon discovered that stitching the entire back was a much longer process.

This Christmas ornament was yet another gift. The front border is a combination of peyote stitch and what I call a "rolled stitch". I hope to have instructions for this stitch in a future book or kit. The backing is flat peyote stitch.
